Green tea is, quite simply, awesome. It’s full of healthy antioxidants, helps you focus, and perks you up. So there’s no way it could be better, right?
Wrong. Kiss Me Organics sent me a complimentary bag of its Culinary Grade Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder. The company claims that its matcha green tea powder provides all day energy and focus; is a calorie-burning booster that increases metabolism; is perfect for lattes, smoothies, and baking; and has up to 137x the antioxidants of brewed green tea since the entire leaf is being used.
Naturally (no pun intended), I was excited to try it, particularly since I’m trying to cut back on the copious coffee consumption. I started by putting a half teaspoon in my morning power smoothie, meaning I could skip the inevitable cup of coffee I would take with it. It blended really well, and I didn’t notice a significant taste difference.
Then I made this latte:
· ½ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
· Honey to taste
Steam almond milk to 140 degrees using the steam wand of a cappuccino machine. Add matcha green tea powder to mug. Pour hot almond milk into the mug and stir until mixed, then add honey to taste.
On a cold, yucky, snowy New England day, this was almost as good as hot chocolate – and better. And I definitely felt a boost of energy after drinking it, but with none of the crash.
Final verdict: Completely worth it! I don’t know about the metabolism-boosting claims, but I can attest to the energy and focus, as well as how it really is perfect for lattes and smoothies. I’ll have to test out the Green Tea Power Bar recipe I have, too. And since you don’t need a lot, the bag will last a long time.
